We are saddened to announce the passing of long-time Prep English Teacher Mr. Joseph Griffin. Mr. Griffin, who retired from the Prep this past summer, passed away on Saturday. He was 85.
Mr. Griffin joined the faculty in 1969, in the second year in the “new” Prep building that is currently Villiger Hall. For five decades, Joe taught literature to our students, with an expertise on the works of Rev. Gerard Manley Hopkins, SJ, Thornton Wilder, Shakespeare, and Robert Frost. A kind man who mostly taught juniors and seniors during his tenure at the Prep, Joe always had a nice word for his co-workers and students. A lover of theatre, Joe served as Director of Cape and Sword Drama Society for a few years in the late 1980s/early 1990s. An incredibly well-read man, he was also an adjunct professor at Drexel University for many years.
He is survived by his wife Louise and their children Joseph ’87 and Anne Louise. Funeral services are private due to health restrictions. Anyone who would like to send a condolence note to the family can send it to: 400 E. Mill Rd., Flourtown, PA 19031.
