COLLEGE CORNER: Carter Lynch ’17, University Of Delaware
This month, Alumni Prep Update caught up with Carter Lynch ’17. Many will remember him from his days on the football field where he was a part of the offensive line as the Prep won state titles in 2014 and 2016. At the University of Delaware, he excelled academically and athletically, earning a spot on the Dean’s List as well as on the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. He was able to graduate early and is now working toward his MBA at the University of Delaware.
APU: How did you choose the Prep and what do you remember most about your time?
CL: Going to the Prep was the greatest and most challenging experience of my life. Everything about going to the Prep required hard work, from commuting an hour each way daily to the rigorous academics and very long hours each night on the practice field. I would choose the Prep again in a heartbeat because it forced me to develop an untouchable work ethic that has helped me to become successful both academically and athletically during my time at the University of Delaware.
I knew I wanted to go to the Prep at a very young age. Growing up, I attended Our Lady of Good Counsel in Moorestown, NJ and would see guys who were older than me who went there, and they were the guys I wanted to be like.
Beyond the life lessons I learned at the Prep, it is the relationships that make it all worthwhile. I still stay in daily contact with 10 of my closest friends from my time at the Prep; they are men I will forever stay close with and the relationships formed there are unlike any other I have experienced. Also, the bonds I formed with my football coaches have remained strong to this day. Coach (Tom) Sugden and Coach (Tim) Roken are still huge supporters and I know I can call anytime of the day with questions relating to football and life.
APU: How did the Prep prepare you for college?
CL: The Prep prepared me academically more than I ever thought it would for college. The rigors of balancing football and 7 classes at a time was a very daunting task. However I can say it has paid dividends for me during my collegiate career. I was so prepared for college that I was able to graduate a semester early while being on the Dean's List and the CAA Football Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll 6 out of 7 of my semesters during undergrad. Hard work and the discipline to take 18 credits at times allowed me to get ahead of my degree requirements. I was accepted into graduate school here at UD, where I am currently pursuing my MBA in International Business through the Lerner College of Business & Economics. Due to COVID-19, I have received an extra year of eligibility so I will be playing football here until next fall while completing my master’s degree. Upon graduation from the University of Delaware, I would like to see what opportunities exist in the world of real estate and development.
