Alim-Karim Kamara ’16, Saint Joseph’s University ’20
Alumni Prep Update recently caught up with Alim-Karim Kamara ’16, who recently graduated from Saint Joseph’s University.
APU: Why did you choose the Prep? What were your experiences as a student at the Prep?
AK: Out of all the other schools I was interested in, I chose to attend the Prep because I felt it was the best place for me to mature in mind, education, and most importantly, my faith. I was fortunate enough to enjoy extracurricular activities while still playing sports and maintaining great grades. What really made my experience was the people I was fortunate enough to meet and share experiences with!
APU: How was your undergraduate experience at Saint Joseph’s University?
AK: Undergrad was the complete opposite of high school. I attended Saint Joseph’s University, where I majored in Communications while minoring in Entertainment Marketing, Music Industry, and English. The idea of creating my own schedule on top of having less outside pressure to do well in school changed the game for me. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way, but I ended up turning out just fine. I learned so much about myself, including what I wanted my career to be and I didn’t let any opportunity go to waste. I wasn’t as involved in extracurriculars or clubs, but I really took to my hobbies and passions and turned those into careers and a great pastime.
APU: What are you doing professionally now?
AK: I’m an entrepreneur. Currently, I am a full-time musician, writing and producing songs which I later perform at shows and events. It’s a career I dove into in college and have since taken as far as I can (and plan to continue to do so). Music is something I love very much. I’m fortunate enough to be making a living off of my words and strange sounds and I’m excited to see where it will continue to take me.
