Breaking Barriers
Breaking Barriers is a program of the Cura Personalis Faculty Team of St. Joseph's Preparatory School that promotes the love and acceptance of all individuals, particularly those who identify as LGBTQ.
This program not only acts as a base of support for LGBTQ students who might be struggling with their sexuality, but it is also be an opportunity for all students of all backgrounds to support each other and better educate themselves about matters dealing with sexuality. The goal of Breaking Barriers is to help gay and straight students better understand and more comfortably accept their own sexuality in a world where sexuality has taken a more public and questioning role.
Breaking Barriers provides a safe forum for students to talk about their experiences, voice their opinion and ask for advice. It helps foster appreciation for diversity within the Prep community, as well as to directly help those who feel lost because of their differences. Gay individuals are to be loved and respected in accordance with our strong tradition off Catholic and Jesuit values. Through this student forum we strive to make the Prep a place that is more open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving and committed to doing justice.
