Dr. Reed is a renowned leader in Ignatian education, having spent nearly three decades in leadership of Jesuit Universities, including his current position as the 25th president of Loyola University Chicago. He is currently a member of the St. Joseph’s Prep Board of Trustees, which he served as Board Chair from 2020-23.

He is currently a member of the St. Joseph’s Prep Board of Trustees, which he served as Board Chair from 2020-23.
One of the world’s leading Jesuit research universities, Loyola is also among the largest and most complex, with nearly 17,000 students, 14 colleges and schools, three campuses in the greater Chicago area and one in Rome, Italy. Prior to Loyola, Dr. Reed served for seven years as the first lay president of Saint Joseph’s University. Before that, he served for fifteen years in multiple senior leadership roles in student affairs, advancement, and as senior vice president for administration and chief of staff at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT, where he was also honored with the Distinguished Faculty-Administrator Award.
Dr. Reed’s career has focused on strengthening the institutions he has served, particularly in the areas of expanded academic programs, academic excellence and impactful research, strategic partnerships, university finances and endowment, student formation, and advancement of the Jesuit, Catholic mission. Additionally, he has regularly taught undergraduate and graduate courses in calculus and statistics.
Dr. Reed has been engaged in addressing broader issues in education. He currently serves as a member of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and its Finance Committee. Besides his work at the Prep, he is a board member of the American Council on Education (ACE), the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU), Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU), and Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL. He is also past chair of the Council of Presidents for the Atlantic 10 Conference.
A lifelong product of Jesuit education beginning with his time in high school at the Prep, Dr. Reed earned a BS in mathematics and MBA from Fairfield University, as well as a MEd in secondary educational administration from Boston College and an EdD in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania.

Barbara Brown’s impact on the St. Joseph’s Prep Science Department is evident with both the greenhouse and science labs reflecting her input for their designs. More importantly, her decades as a biology teacher and time as a department chair have made an indelible impression on generations of students and colleagues alike. In the 1987 yearbook, she was described as "making biology seem easy," and was recognized for having a level of care and patience that led to her being a favorite among the students. Ms. Brown is not only an expert in her content area, but her dedication to her craft and knowing what each student needs to be successful in her class also exemplifies her commitment to the Jesuit tenet of cura personalis.
Ms. Brown's impact reaches far beyond the classroom and she animated the Jesuit mission of the Prep. In addition to being part of our retreat programs and Kairos since its early days, Ms. Brown brought the Community Service Corps to the Prep. The efforts of this group were led by her simple guiding question to the students: "What do you care about?" This resulted in student-led efforts ranging from fully funding and building a Habitat for Humanity home down the street from the Prep to raising money for the construction of a maternity hospital in Africa.
Ms. Brown's dedication to supporting the holistic student experience also led her to be the two-time moderator of the storied Prep Crew program. Her work with Prep Crew has been memorialized with an eight-man shell being named in her honor.
Ms. Brown also experienced life as a Prep parent to her three sons (Stephen Kelly '98, Andrew Kelly '00, and Patrick Kelly '08), allowing her to see the difference a Prep education can make in students’ lives through the eyes of a mother.
