“How did we get so old!” - Rosario Lamberto, a/k/a Rusty
We were the first class to go through 4 years in the then new building. At 303, we were – and still are – the largest freshman class in school history. We are attempting to have one of the rooms in the new Learning Center named after our class if we can continue to count on the generosity and commitment of our classmates to contribute to the capital campaign. And we helped get Chuck Klein elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame – all in simple sentences!
Yes, these are accomplishments that have distinguished our class. However, the greatest achievement is that since we first met in September, 1969, we have continued to value and treasure the many friendships we made in those 4 years – even now, 50 years after we graduated. We have enjoyed past reunions, happy hours and golf outings where significant numbers of us have come together. But more importantly, we count on each other to be our best friends, the ones we talk to frequently, the ones we want to join in our celebrations and the ones we need in times of sorrow. These relationships are what we value the most. And of course, we all have our favorite stories about our friends that still keep us laughing – the fire extinguisher battle, the VW Bug in the cafeteria, the walk out for Eddie Burke, Father Ayd giving each class “the talk.”
No celebration of our Prep experience would be complete without remembering our teachers and mentors who made us better men – Harry Bender, Jerry Taylor, Dan Brennan, Charlie Kling, Fr. Garber, Nick Kueny, Gus Kueny, Earl Hart, Jim Murray, John Gaffney, Fr. Smith, Moon Mullen, Dixie, Dutchy, Ed Burke and many more.
With this kind of class and these great memories, how could our 50 year reunion not be a once in a lifetime experience?! Our committee is putting the finishing touches on our plans for the weekend of June 2-4 and we hope to see all of you there! Reach out to your closest buddies and make sure they will be there! There will be events each day and the highlight will be the Saturday evening gathering at the Prep where spouses and significant others are welcome.
So, mark your calendars and join us at our 50 year reunion!
