Why did you choose to go to the Prep?
For me, it came down to three key factors, all of which I stated on my application essay a mere four years ago. 1) Academic Excellence: Among all the schools in the Delaware Valley, it’s almost a given that the Prep’s curriculum is not only the most challenging but also extremely holistic. I like to say it forces students to not just work harder, but to work “smarter.” 2) Location: Our location in North Philadelphia is truly a benefit. Simply put, the experience of navigating a city provides necessary skills, such as utilizing public transportation, needed for adult life. 3) Diversity of Student Body: The student population at the Prep is one of socioeconomic diversity. These differences in race, religion, thought, and so much more allows each student to grow through various experiences with each other.

It’s important to note that these were my original reasons to attend the Prep, but they are not the only reasons why anyone should attend.

What activities are you involved in at the Prep? How has being involved affected your life?
Over my Prep career, I’ve tried my best to get myself involved in co-curricular activities. Currently I serve as editor-in-chief of The Hawkeye (student newspaper), Vice President of Student Council, President of Prep Democrats, and a member of the soccer and forensics teams. In particular, The Hawkeye gave me a forum to learn how to express myself objectively through writing articles, as well as help augment my “people” skills through the management side of running a newspaper.

While The Hawkeye is what I cited above, it’s the combination of all of these activities that has allowed me to satisfy different facets of myself and help me grow into the person I am today.
