The Homelessness Sleepout has become an extremely important program at St. Joe’s Prep.
As part of the Sleepout, students will work with individuals experiencing homelessness, view clips from a documentary, and engage in several activities to simulate homelessness in an effort to educate on the issue. Speakers will share their first hand experience with homelessness while students attempt to better understand how so many can live without housing. To more fully understand, participants will be sleeping outside on school property for the night. The program does not end on Saturday morning. The students are asked to come up with concrete ways that our community can be in solidarity with those dealing with hunger and homelessness.
The Sleepout starts on Friday, March 3 and concludes Saturday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m. with mass. There will be an opportunity for parents to join their sons in a breakfast reception and concluding prayer service.
If you give permission for your son to participate in this trip, please sign both the Parent Permission and Medical Waiver Form, and have your son sign the Conduct Agreement Form. Please return it to Mission & Ministry by Friday, February 24.
