College Counseling Timeline

The college process begins Freshman year at the Prep and gradually intensifies during a student's Senior year.

Quarter 1

Seniors

  1. Complete the FAFSA Forecaster- Understand estimated family contribution (EFC).
  2. Finalize which schools to apply and which deadlines make most sense
  3. Application Completion
  4. FAFSA/CSS Profile Completion

Entire Student Body
Participate in on campus college visits and local college/career fairs – begin to understand the vocabulary associated with college admission, trends, and specialized programs/majors

Quarter 2

Juniors

  • October: Practice SAT (PSAT/NMSQT)
  • Junior Family Programming (large group/individual)
  • Standardized Test Prep consultation
  • Intensive education/programming targeted toward the components "fit"
  • College exploration/Visitation continued from Quarter 1

Sophomores

  • College Visits Continue
  • October: Practice SAT

Freshman

  • College Visits continue

Quarter 3

Seniors

  • Begin final college visits (accepted student days)
  • National Scholarship Application season/completion

Juniors

  • Standardized Testing (SAT/ACT/SAT SUBJECT TESTS)
  • Course selection/transcript building consultation
  • Post-Secondary Spotlight participation/Spring College Visits
  • SJP College Counseling Fit schooling continues

Freshman/Sophomores

  • Parent Evening sessions

All family programing

  • Financial Aid Night, Case Study Presentation, Parent Panels
  • Post-Secondary Spotlight

Quarter 4

Seniors

  • College Signing Day (May 1)

Juniors

  • Mock College Interview Day
  • SJP Personal Fit School programming
  • Course Selection

Sophomores
