Test Prep Programs

The Scholarship/Entrance Exam is part of the Admissions process at the Prep. Though it is just one part of the application, it is an important piece of information for our Admission Team when determining acceptances to the freshman class. Therefore, many students like to be as prepared as possible to do their best on this test.

The Prep offers several opportunities for students who want to be as prepared as possible for their 8th Grade test.

  • 6th & 7th Grade Test Prep Program (Virtual for Spring 2021)

    This 8-week program prepares 6th & 7th grade students to begin taking high school entrance tests at Philadelphia-area Catholic and private schools. Modeled on the Test Prep Program for 8th graders in the Fall, this program is specifically designed to support primary school curriculum work, to broaden content in Math and English, and to use Latin and Greek for reading comprehension and critical analysis.

    The Spring 2021 sessions will be held virtually via Zoom starting on February 20 and ending on April 10. Each session is from 8 - 10 a.m. and will be recorded. The cost of the Spring Test Prep Program includes free registration for the Entrance Exam Practice Test in April.  Once you register for the Test Prep Program, your child is automatically registered for the Entrance Exam Practice Test on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 8:30am to 12:30pm.

    The program cost is $225. This does NOT include a small fee to purchase the class textbook via Amazon.  A link for the Amazon book will be provided after registration.   • 6th & 7th Grade Entrance Exam Practice Test (Spring)

    Sixth and seventh grade boys and girls may take a Practice Test in the Spring. The test administered is the H.S.P.T. (High School Placement Test) and the conditions will be the same as we offer in 8th Grade. Students who score in the top percentiles on the entrance exam practice test will be eligible for a scholarship to our Pre-7th & Pre-8th Summer Program.

  • 8th Grade Test Prep Program (Virtual for Fall 2020)

    This 8-week program is designed to prepare 8th grade boys and girls for the High School Placement Test (HSPT). Sessions are held on Saturdays (September through November).  The Fall 2020 program will be held virtually via Zoom starting on Sat, Sep. 19th and ending on Sat, Nov. 7th.  Each Saturday session will run from 9am to 11am.  The program cost is $225.  This does NOT include a small fee to purchase the class textbook via Amazon.  A link for the Amazon book will be provided after registration.  For more information, please contact the Director of the Test Prep Program, Mr. Steve Fromhold '02, at sfromhold@sjprep.org.  Zoom links will be sent to participants the weeks of Sept. 14th

Inn Dwelling at St. Joseph's Prep: St. Katharine Drexel Saturday Academy

Inn Dwelling at the Prep is a partnership between Inn Dwelling and St. Joseph's Preparatory School. The goal of the program is to prepare and expose high achieving boys in under-served communities to a rigorous curriculum and in turn help St. Joseph's Prep identify boys that will be successful in a college preparatory environment. The Saturday morning program held at the Prep includes both seventh and eighth grade boys who are at the top of their class, student leaders, involved in their community and have the potential to do well in a high school college preparatory program like St. Joseph's Prep. The overall program is called The Saint Katharine Drexel Saturday Academy.
