Spanish Club

The Spanish Club’s goals are to promote Spanish language and culture and to give the students an opportunity to learn outside the classroom. The members are given the opportunity to expand their knowledge of Hispanic countries, their culture, food and people through the different activities that encourage contact with Spanish speakers, through film, lectures, literature and other means.

Knowledge dispels ignorance and prejudice and it is possible to understand how these contacts enable the students to see others in their milieu and to appreciate their differences, to know that other cultures produce great artists and writers. In that endeavor, we organize several activities throughout the year. In past years the club has invited distinguished speakers and artists.

The Mexican painter, Clemente Orozco, grandson of the famous muralist was one of our distinguished guests. Other important speakers, a journalist, a successful entrepreneur, a civil rights activist, are planned for this year signaling the tremendous growth and influence of the Hispanic community in the country. The large number of new restaurants with Latin flavor also affords us opportunities for new experiences. Our students attended the Philadelphia Art Museum’s exhibit of Latin American colonial art, a Salvador Dalí exhibit, and the wonderful collection of works by Mexican painter Frida Khalo. The members participate in other cultural activities in music and film.
