Retreats

The retreat program offered at St. Joseph’s Prep strives to bring continued development, spiritual growth, and the Ignatian ideal of Cura Personalis – care for the whole person - to the students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Our retreats are designed to meet retreatants where they are through peer-led talks and meaningful opportunities to encounter Christ through community, prayer, the sacraments, and silence.

IGNITE Freshman Retreat

The IGNITE Freshman Retreat is an overnight experience that introduces our incoming freshmen class to the Jesuit mission and community of St. Joseph's Prep. This annual retreat, held overnight at the Prep, begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday evening and lasts until 7 p.m. on Friday night.

The retreat’s name – IGNITE – emphasizes the night our freshmen spend being introduced to the charisms and stories of Ignatius, the founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). More than 70 juniors and seniors, who serve as retreat small group leaders, organize and coordinate the retreat, along with nearly three dozen teachers and administrators.

All freshmen are required to attend the IGNITE Freshman Retreat which, in addition to acquainting students to the Prep’s Jesuit traditions, also helps them come to better know themselves, their relationships, their family and friends, and God.

Montserrat Sophomore Retreat & Sophomore Conversation

The Montserrat Sophomore Retreat is an opportunity offered for our 10th grade students to pause, pray, reflect on their experiences of the Prep, and prepare for their remaining two years, all in light of the Profile of a Graduate at Graduation. This annual retreat is offered at three different times, off-site in preparation for the Sophomore Conversation.

The Sophomore Conversation is a formative experience in the life of our Prep students. It allows our sophomores the opportunity to “step back” and take stock of their gifts and talents to see how they might grow within the context of our shared Catholic, Jesuit mission and tradition. Each member of the faculty and staff takes time to speak with a student in our sophomore class and offer support and guidance.

Kairos Retreat

Kairos, a Greek word meaning "the Lord's time," is an intensive four-day retreat where juniors at the Prep open themselves up to God's love as well as the love of their family and friends. The retreat is not mandatory; juniors have the option of making this retreat. Over 28 years it has become very popular among the students and continues to be one of the highlights of their Prep career. The spirit of the retreat is one of acceptance and love, and we make every effort to create this environment for them.

Senior Retreat

Building on the rich tradition that retreats have had at the Prep, we will offer our seniors a new experience all their own. Building on the successes of Kairos, the senior retreat will be designed to meet the retreatants where they're at by having reflection on the growth they have experienced over their time at the Prep.

More information to come at a later date.
