Mission Renewal - Looking Forward

Apostolic Discernment and Mission Renewal. Looking Forward.

From the very beginning it has been our hope to involve all members of the Prep community in the work of discernment and renewal. While our roles and responsibilities differ, no single group at The Prep holds title to the mission. All of us, members of the Board, faculty, Staff, and Administrators, Coaches and Moderators, Students, Parents, and Alumni, share in both the graces and work of the mission.

We are currently planning ways to further expand the process of Apostolic Discernment and Mission Renewal. Insofar as possible we hope to retain the essential elements of the first two gatherings: disposition days, open and honest conversation, and attentive listening that produces shared understanding of our mission and a common commitment to actions that further our mission.

It is our aim to have reached all members of the Prep community by Christmas Break.

  • All members of the Board of Trustees during the Board’s September meeting.
  • All members of the Faculty, Staff and Administration through day long department gatherings. This work is to be completed by 20 October. The 1 November in-service day will include further steps in the process of discernment and renewal.
  • All Coaches and Moderators at a one day meeting on 11 November.
  • All students by means of extended homerooms. This work is to be completed by 7 December.
  • All officers of the Mothers’ and Fathers’ clubs, along with members of the Alumni Board of Governors
  • All current parents by means of three evening sessions or a day long Saturday meeting.
  • All alumni by means of three evening sessions or a day long Saturday meeting.
  • And finally, we would like to convene a community wide dedicated to discernment, renewal and service toward the end of the first semester.

Both the agenda of apostolic discernment and mission renewal and our desire to bring this faith-filled, action oriented process to all members of the Prep community are ambitious goals. The process we are beginning taps into our generosity and our desire to become more effective in the formation of an apostolic community on mission for the education and formation of young men. During these next weeks and months, please continue to pray for the entire Prep community and God’s blessing on our work of apostolic discernment and mission renewal. You may want to pray using words attributed to Ignatius of Loyola.

Dear Lord,
Teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve,
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save hat of knowing that I do your will.
Amen
