SpeakUp!
On Saturday, February 3, at Merion Mercy Academy, students from The Prep will join with students from three other schools for a special event called “SpeakUp!” Prep students joined with students from Merion Mercy, Malvern Prep and the Academy of Notre Dame, to plan a day of communication between young adults and their parents. The program was designed in collaboration with parents, teachers and administrators.
SpeakUp! is a program designed to open conversation on topics often uncomfortable among parents, teens and educators. It stands alone among similar programs because the conversations take place in safe, non-judgmental environments. Topics to be discussed include Alcohol and Harmful Substances, Sex and Pressure, Destructive Behaviors, Internet Awareness, Stress Management, and Parent-Teen Trust.
The program begins promptly at 9:00am and runs until 2:00pm Registration begins at 8:15am and lunch will be provided. After a brief multimedia opening presentation, the group will disperse into smaller groups called “breakout sessions,” each led by a presenter with experience and knowledge about the particular topic. Everyone will attend two breakout sessions, one in the morning and one after lunch. After the final breakout session in the afternoon, the entire group will reconvene for a presentation by last year’s big hit presenter, Milton Creagh, and all presenters will be available at the end for any further questions.
