In Memoriam: Daniel A. Brennan
Daniel A. Brennan
We are saddened to report that Dan Brennan - longtime teacher, principal, administrator and friend of the Prep - passed away early this week at the age of 71.
Brennan came to the Prep in 1961 as a member of the Modern Language Department teaching French. He moved through the academic administration, serving as registrar for several years until becoming principal in 1979. He served in that position until 1991.
As principal, Brennan was a regular presence at all Prep functions, from athletic events to alumni dinners and admissions nights. Clad often in plaid and bright colored sport coats, Brennan was the high-energy symbol of the Prep. Students of that era remember him fondly and he is an honorary member of the Class of 1965 and 1991, which dedicated its yearbook in his honor.
After a year away from the Prep, Brennan returned to the school he loved in 1992, serving as Director of Enrollment Services in the Admission Office for several years before becoming Vice President for Development in 1998. He held that position until his retirement in 2004.
Brennan is the father of two Prep graduates, Daniel '84 and Matthew '87.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 20 at 11 a.m., at St. John Neumann Church (380 Highland Lane, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010). The mass will be concelebrated by Msg. Francis Meehan '54 and Rev. Joseph Meehan '51.
A viewing will be held Saturday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at St. John Neuman Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Prep (1733 W. Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130) in Dan's memory would be appreciated.
