Hispanic Students Active in Enrichment This Summer
Four Latino students spent the summer representing the Prep at various locations on a National level at the following National Hispanic Institutes (NHI) summer leadership seminars:
-
Frederick DiPasquale '10, University of Rochester, The Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session (LDZ): The LDZ focuses on the organization and management of power as a foundational tool of leadership and is the most recognized high school age leadership program of NHI. Started in 1983, the overall challenge of the LDZ is for the students to envision themselves as part of the future leadership of a 21st Century Latino community.
-
Giovanni Morales '09, Monterrey, Mexico, LDZ Internacional: t he LDZ Internacional, the newest offering of the NHI, explored the diversity of the global Latino community.
-
Javier Ramos '11 and Giancarlo Sanguinetti '11, Villanova University, The Young Leaders Conference (YLC): the YLC allows high school freshmen the opportunity to test and improve their written and verbal communication skills through organized discussions and debates about issues that impact today's Latino community. Students gain confidence in public speaking and an appreciation of communication as a powerful tool of leadership. Students also gain experience creating content-rich arguments, communicating them through powerful, eloquent expression, and carefully analyzing the arguments presented by their peers.
