In Memoriam: Nick Kueny '43

Nick Kueny '43

We are sad to report that Nick Kueny ’43, the longtime math teacher and athletic trainer, passed away yesterday at the age of 83. A viewing will be held in the Church of the Gesu on Friday, April 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at noon. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Cheltenham. In lieu of flowers, the Kueny family requests that donations be made in Nick’s name to St. Joseph’s Prep or St. John’s Hospice (1221 Race Street).

Nick spent most of his professional career at the Prep, teaching freshman algebra and serving as the Prep’s trainer well before most high schools had such a thing. When he retired in 1988, Nick was one of the most loved members of the Prep faculty. Since then, he has been a faithful volunteer at Shore Memorial Hospital and a daily communicant at the Church of St. Augustine in Ocean City, N.J. He, along with his cousin Gus ’53, helped make the Kueny’s one of the “first families” of St. Joseph’s Prep. He survived by his niece Trudy Conville and nephew Martin (father of Prep senior Nicholas ’09) along with many cousins (including Prep alumnus Jacques ’57).
