National Hispanic Institute Honors Four Prep Students
Four Prep students have been selected to participate in the National Hispanic Institutes’ Young Leaders Conference (YLC) and the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Sessions (LDZ).
Two freshmen, Javier Ramos and Giancarlo Sanguinetti, have been accepted to attend the Northeast Young Leaders Conference to be held on the campus of Villanova University this summer. Students participate in a program that involves six days of individual and group training by NHI certified trainers in areas of communications, argument development, critical/analytical thinking, and using teamwork as a means to demonstrate leadership.
Frederick DiPasquale ’10 and Giovanni Morales ’09 have been selected to attend the LDZ Sessions being held at the University of Rochester and El Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores in Monterrey, Mexico. Started in 1983, the overall challenge of the LDZ is for the students to envision themselves as part of the future leadership of a 21st Century Latino community. Students are asked to assess the promise and potential of a community rooted in a reality of dual cultures. Critical thinking, collaboration, and the ability to influence outcomes will emerge as essential skills to facilitate success as a leader in the 21st century Latino community.
