Modern Language Lecture Series
The Modern Language Department, in cooperation with the Office for Diversity and the Taggart Cultural Series, is sponsoring a talk, “Popular Religiosity in the Hispanic Community” by Sr. Ruth Bolarte of the Catholic Institute for Evangelization, on Wednesday, October 10 during periods one, two, four and five in the theatre. This lecture is the first presentation of the Modern Language Lecture Series.
Sr. Ruth will discuss how culture influences our faith and will highlight this influence by discussing religious devotions in the Hispanic community (La Vírgen de Guadalupe, Día de Los Muertos, Quinceñeras , etc.).
The lecture is broken into two parts, with varying degrees of Spanish language use. One lecture will be completely in Spanish and one lecture will have a brief introduction in Spanish, with the body of the lecture in English. Several Religion classes will be attending this lecture, as well. Periods one and four will be for levels Spanish I and II; periods two and five will be the Spanish Lecture, designed for levels III and IV.
