Swimming

Senior Spotlight - Class of 2012

Chris Cavanaugh has swum competitively since he was five years old. In addition to swimming for SJP for all four years, he swims for his club team: Penn Charter Aquatic Club. Academically, Chris is most passionate about the sciences and plans to study mechanical engineering in college. Chris founded and led the first Water Polo team at SJP, and served as a founding member and editor of SJP's Crimson and Grey newspaper. He hopes to pursue most of his passions, including his love of the arts, wherever he attends college.  Chris is a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Commended Student.

Mac Collison is returning to the Prep swim team for his fourth year.  He was voted co-captain for the 2011-2012 season.  Mac spent his summer travelling to China and participating in an international business internship program.  Mac is the President of the Asian Culture Club and hopes to study business in college.  Mac is a member of the National Honor Society.

Justin Hager started swimming as a young child and has never stopped. In addition to swimming for the Prep, Justin previously swam with the Jersey Wahoos and Friends Central Aquatics.  His best event is the 500 freestyle, in which he has qualified for districts the past three years.  Justin swims all year round and plans to until graduation.

Kevin King has been swimming since he was five years old.  He spent every summer at the pool and, beginning in high school, started swimming year round. In addition to swimming with the Prep, Kevin joined the South Jersey Aquatic Club during his sophomore year.  Kevin excels in multiple events, especially the 100 Butterfly.  Wherever he ends up in college, he hopes swimming will remain a part of his life. Academically, Kevin hopes to pursue his interests in the liberal arts and discover his true passions.  Kevin is a member of the National Honor Society.

Garrett Knauss is a varsity swimmer and co-captain of the swim team. As a senior swimmer he has set my goals high this year looking forward to significant time drops in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. Although Garrett doesn't plan to swim in college, he hopes to become a better Prep swimmer and contribute much to the team. In college Garrett plans to study Linguistics and Chinese as well as become a member of the NROTC program.

Logan Knauss is the most decorated Prep diver in recent memory.  He has placed in the final at States all three years and is an AAU All American. He has competed at the junior national level and has the PIAA district record for 11 dives.  This year, he will likely post the record for 6 dives as well.  Logan committed to the University of Wisconsin and is looking forward to a great senior year at the Prep and a few more at Wisconsin.

Tim Koenig is a co-captain of the Prep Swimming & Diving Team.  At the Prep, Tim is busy.  Aside from swimming, he is Student Council Treasurer. He attended Kairos CXIX and led CXXI. He leads Operation Swim, was a member of the Ixthus Mission & Ministry Team and participated in Operation Santa Claus. He also is a proud Mathlete and Christus Choir member.  Tim is a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Commended Student .

Shane McKenzie is a four-year member of Prep swimming and has earned All-Catholic honors in each of his first 3 years. In addition, Shane is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. He swims for the Upper Main Line YMCA all year round and competes in many national meets, usually in the 1650 free, 1000 free, 400 IM, 200 fly and 200 back. Shane will attend the University of Notre Dame next year where he will continue his swimming career.  Shane is a member of the National Honor Society.

Murphy Smith is a co-captain of the swim team. Despite this being only Murphy’s second year at the Prep, he has contributed to the team in most every event.  He is always ready to talk with any of the swimmers during which he can often be heard saying, “I love being a part of this team.”  He has already set goals for himself and this team.  For the team, he wants as many teammates to swim at Districts and States as possible, especially for the guys that couldn’t go last year.  One of his personal goals is to go to states.  Murphy is a member of the National Honor Society.
