Shawn Bagnall
Shawn Bagnall finished his fifth season as the assistant men's crew coach at Gonzaga University in 2007. Bagnall serves as the men's rowing recruiting coordinator while also coaching the novice and junior varsity rowers.
Since joining the Bulldogs, Bagnall has helped to recruit top talent from across the United States along with developing many of Gonzaga's top oarsmen. In 2004 he coached the junior varsity 8+ to a first-place finish at the West Coast Conference Championships and a third-place finish at the WIRA Championships. His freshman 4+ boat finished 15th at the 2004 IRA Championships.
In 2005 Bagnall again coached the junior varsity and freshman boat's to championship success with the junior varsity 8+ capturing the WCC Championship and the bronze medal at the WIRA Championships. His freshman 4+ finished 7th at the IRA's while the freshman 8+ was invited to the 2005 Opening Day Regatta, finishing third. Bagnall had one rower from his junior varsity boat earn second team All-WIRA honors.
The 2006 season was a defining year for Bagnall's novice rowers at Gonzaga. The novice squad went undefeated in its dual racing season, had a gold medal performance at the NCRC Invitational, and earned a silver medal in both the first and second freshman 8+ races at the WIRA Regatta. The freshman 8+ also garnered a second place finish at the Opening Day Regatta over a talented field with inculded Oregon State University and Orange Coast College; finishing second only to eventual national champion University of Washington. To cap of the successful 2006 season, Gonzaga earned its first invitation to compete in the freshman 8+ race at the IRA National Championship Regatta where the Bulldogs placed 16th. In 2007, Bagnall coached the Novice 4+ to a second place finish at the WIRA Championships.
During the summer of 2007, Bagnall served as the assistant coach for the US Rowing Junior National Team Development and Selection Camp in Seattle, Wash.
Bagnall was named assistant coach after a stint at Washington State University, where he coached the WSU freshman from 1998-2000 and the varsity men's program from 2000-02. In 2002 Bagnall coached the WSU men's varsity 8+ to its highest finish at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships since the 1995 season, the Cougars finishing eighth. During his coaching career at WSU, Bagnall's crews finished in 2nd Level Finals or higher during all regattas attended by WSU.
Prior to coaching the Cougars, Bagnall was a varsity rower at Washington State from 1996-98, rowing for current Gonzaga women's head coach Glenn Putyrae. He was an All-Pacific-10 Conference selection in 1997.
A 1999 Washington State University graduate, Bagnall is U.S. Rowing Coaching Level I- III certified.
